Inspecting the spring, we found no breakage, but then we checked on the rest of the system and soon discovered the garage door cables became frayed. On one side the situation was worse, but we recommended replacing both cables to keep from having to deal with this issue again soon on the other side. After unspooling both garage door cables off their drums, we looped two new cables with sufficient durability to support the weight of the garage door.
